Since its launch back in 2024, Marvel Rivals has become a highly-popular and successful hero-shooter.
While it was always going to have mass appeal to the Marvel crowd, the true extent of the game's success has been staggering to say the least, and there’s plenty more to come.
It’s soon going to have competition from its own backyard as a new Marvel game is in the works with Scopely.
Scopely is probably best-known for Monopoly Go so if you’re already sceptical about what it could bring to the Marvel multiverse, give it a chance.
The game is currently titled “Project Comet” and the latest reports claim it’ll adopt the Marvel Rivals art style whilst still maintaining its own identity.

Said to be a mobile RPG, it looks like a game inspired by gatcha titles such as Genshin Impact, but with a wide-variety of Marvel heroes as playable characters.
MultiverSusie on XCancel claims some of the current playable characters include Quicksilver, Juggernaut, Thor and Beast. Some brief gameplay footage of Juggernaut was also shown off.
Like most gatcha-style games, it’ll more than likely be free-to-play, but rely heavily on microtransactions like Marvel Rivals.

That could automatically turn some gamers away, but after games like Star Wars: Battlefront II raised questions on what acceptable forms of microtransactions are, most of what you’ll see nowadays is purely cosmetic. Either that or time-savers allowing you to level up quickly. There’s rarely any pay-to-win items sold.
Gatcha games have become increasingly popular over the years too, with games like the aforementioned Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves amassing quite the following. Wuthering Waves even partnered up with Cyberpunk 2077 recently for a collaboration that left us all in tears.

Given their popularity, it’s no wonder that Marvel wants to try and take a piece of the gacha pie. The diversity of the franchise gives it ample wiggle room to experiment with different genres.
There’s currently no word on when this mysterious Project Comet could be officially unveiled, nor when it could potentially release.
We can’t imagine it’ll reach the heights of Marvel Rivals as a hero-shooter likely has more appeal than a gatcha game. But we’d be lying if we said another open-world Marvel game hadn’t piqued our interest, especially if it’s free-to-play.
For now, you can enjoy the current season of Marvel Rivals for the low, low price of nothing. The recent addition to the game’s roster, Cyclops, is a lot of fun, and there are plenty more characters on the way as the game nears its second anniversary later this year.
