Cyberpunk 2077 fans finally have the ending they always wanted with this brand-new and free release in 2026.
Despite its woeful launch, CD Projekt RED’s Cyberpunk 2077 went on to become one of the best RPGs in its genre, but some might consider it to be one of the best games of all time, at least in recent memory.
The work that the developers at CD Projekt RED achieved in making Cyberpunk 2077 the game it is today deserves all the plaudits. Sure, we can fairly say that the game should never have been released in its poor state in 2020 to begin with, but it's also fair to say that with all the fixes and free content updates, Cyberpunk 2077 may have actually exceeded all expectations.
Building on the success of Cyberpunk 2077, fans of the sci-fi RPG were treated to even more ways to experience the franchise, such as board games, novels, clothing and much more. However, in 2022, the franchise arguably got its best adaptation outside of the video game with the anime series Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, which launched on Netflix.
Cyberpunk: Edgerunners is a 10-part series that takes place before the events of Cyberpunk 2077. It’s a standalone story (with some recognisable faces) and focuses on the lives of two main characters, David Martinez and Lucy Kushinada.

There are some major spoilers for the ending of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners below, so please consider this to be your final warning.
At the end of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners, David becomes consumed with cybernetics in an attempt to become a powerful player in Night City. He gets into a gruesome confrontation with the infamous Adam Smasher, and while attempting to save the love of his life, Lucy, he is mercilessly killed.
Before his death, David and Lucy spoke about how they’d love to visit the moon together. Sadly, that dream never came true for the duo, but in honour of David’s memory, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners ends with Lucy visiting the moon on her own. While many thought this was a poetic ending, many others wanted David and Lucy to share that moment.
In June this year, a collaboration was launched between the free-to-play open-world RPG Wuthering Waves and Cyberpunk: Edgerunners. To say that this new version of Night City in Wuthering Waves looks stunning and that both are a natural fit is an understatement. Some might even say that this version of Night City looks better than the one created by CD Projekt RED.
As brought to our attention by Comic Book, with Wuthering Waves essentially having the license to tell a new story or at least, an alternative version of an existing story, fans have finally got their David and Lucy moment. Granted, this particular moment is a dream, but it’s a heartwarming moment for fans nonetheless.

“Enjoy the ending of the collaboration. David spent his final moments with Lucy near the moon,” tweeted Kaito. “Lucy and David finally reunited...OMGGGG,” they also said in another post.
Though not everyone is too thrilled to relive the heartache. “Why would they put us through this pain again?” exclaimed Ty Saito.
If you want to experience this Cyberpunk: Edgerunners event for yourself, the event ends next month on 9-10 July 2026 (depending on your timezone). Wuthering Waves is available on PC, PlayStation and mobile devices. It will also come to Xbox next month.
