Say what you want about the idea that the Marvel Cinematic Universe has 'dropped off' since Avengers: Endgame, but even away from hopes that Avengers: Doomsday can do more than just cash in on nostalgia, the Marvel IP is far from dead.

You only have to look at the world of Marvel video games to see how things are alive and well, with Insomniac's upcoming Marvel's Wolverine tipped to be one of this year's biggest games, Marvel Rivals Season 9 tipped to take us into the Age of Apocalypse, and a packed slate of upcoming titles keeping us fed.

Another new contender could be entering the ring, with a deluge of leaks showing off the mysterious 'Project Comet'. We recently reported on how Project Comet looks like an evolution of Marvel Rivals in a similar style, but with leaked gameplay, we get a closer look at how those heroes and villains will supposedly play.

What Is Project Comet?

First leaked by Marvel fanatic Miller Ross at the start of June 2026, Project Comet has since exploded with leaks as a free-to-play mobile action-RPG from Scopely. You might know Scopely as the mobile giant behind the likes of Pokémon GO and Monster Hunter Now. It's previously dabbled in Marvel with Marvel Strike Force, but Project Comet is described as being in the vein of gacha games like Genshin Impact and Wuthering Waves.

With a diverse roster of characters, Project Comet is also billed as being akin to a Marvel Ultimate Alliance mobile game. It's said that Project Comet shares art talent with Marvel Rivals, which would explain why there are some very familiar-looking character designs.

As leaks originally shared by @multiversesusie have since been pulled, it has only thrown fuel on the fire that this is the real deal.

In terms of who we'll get to suit up as, an ever-growing list includes staple heroes, including Captain America, Thor, Spider-Man, Wolverine, and Doctor Strange. Looking at the particular popularity of Spidey and Wolverine in Marvel movies and games, these two are obvious choices. Elsewhere, we're tipped to play as Elektra, War Machine, Sue Storm, Wolverine, Doctor Octopus, Quicksilver, Scarlet Witch, Jean Grey, and even Madelyn Pryor (in her Goblin Queen form).

That's already an impressive launch lineup with a mix of expected characters and more obscure ones, but assuming Scopely will go in on monetisation, we can see more being added via various season passes.

If all of this wasn't enough, Juggernaut is also apparently ready to flex his muscles.

Project Comet Gameplay Finally Gives Us Juggernaut

For those questioning why Juggernaut still hasn't barged his way into Marvel Rivals, we could get our Cain Marko fix via Project Comet. There are plenty of concepts out there for how Juggernaut could look and work in Marvel Rivals, but making fans of X-Men: The Animated Series feel old, the community supposedly deems the iconic X-Men villain to be an 'obscure' character. He's seemingly not too obscure for Project Comet, with the leaked gameplay showing off this bulging brute pulling off a Super Mario 64-inspired butt stomp.

There's continued speculation about when Juggernaut could land in Marvel Rivals, especially with the Crimson Gem of Cyttorak appearing in the Sanctum Sanctorum map. With season 9 just around the corner, he could make a surprise arrival before too long.

As for Project Comet, the fact that neither Marvel Games nor Scopely has issued an official statement means it remains an unannounced title that could release at any given time. Considering the seemingly aggressive DMCA takedown, we're surprised the powers that be didn't make the most of the hype and announce Project Comet as whatever it'll ultimately be called, but either way, this is one to add to the groaning roster of upcoming Marvel games we'll hopefully see sooner rather than later.
