Fallout 4 might not be everyone's favourite entry in the series, but it's difficult to deny that it's filled with fun secrets and bits of lore that add considerable depth to the post-apocalyptic universe created all those years ago.
Now, the most famous line in the series is pretty inarguably 'War Never Changes' - a comment on the destruction that humans are capable of wreaking on one another and a warning for those of us playing at home.
It features heavily in trailers for various Fallout properties and was actually first used in the original Fallout way back in 1997, where it was said by actor Ron Perlman of Hellboy fame.
Fallout 4 is no exception, with the player character saying it during the opening creation scene in the bathroom mirror. In that case, however, the line is hiding a bit of a secret that's actually got a fun payoff at the end.

War Still Hasn't Changed
During character creation in Fallout 4, you'll spend your time looking at the character and their partner whilst they have a genuinely quite wholesome conversation ahead of breakfast, before the bombs drop for the first time.
Part of that conversation relates to a speech the player is set to give that evening at the Veteran's Hall, within which he is planning to say the famous quote about the War.

As first pointed out by Fallout Films over on Twitter/X, he was obviously never able to deliver his speech as the nuclear attack spoiled those plans, but you can still find a nice Easter egg related to it some 210 years later, when you wake up in 2287.
If you head over to Fraternal Post 115, you'll be able to find the Veteran's Hall you were supposed to speak at, all that time ago. There you'll be able to find a terminal that references your character (with whatever name they've chosen). You can also approach a nearby microphone and interact with it, where you will utter the words you were supposed to share with fellow veterans more than two centuries before, “War… War Never Changes.”

It's a great callback to a moment that would have otherwise felt pretty throwaway, and it adds some nice in-universe lore to one of the most iconic lines related to the series. Whether that means we'll get to see our character from Fallout 4 appear in the Prime Video show as a soldier remains to be seen, but oh boy, would that be cool.
