Fallout 4 Opening Scene Realisation Makes Perfect Sense

Turns out they did want to set the world on fire

The release of the Prime Video show was a great thing for the Fallout franchise, bringing in an entirely new set of fans who may have not played the games up to that point.

The issue with that comes when you realise that the lore behind the Fallout series has been building for more than two decades. That leads to an incredibly deep project that fans are emotionally attached to and it's a massive battle for the producers to put out a project that's both accessible to new fans and faithful for old ones.

Happily, they did a solid job with the first season and we’re all set up to head to New Vegas when the second season releases in December. In the meantime, fans have been discussing everything we've seen so far as well as the potential of what's to come, including scenes that could easily confuse viewers if they hadn't yet played the video games in any capacity.

Equally, those jumping into the games for the first times have plenty of questions for the more knowledgeable fans, and they’re only too happy to oblige by answering in as much detail as they can.

Two Big Countries Fight One Very Big War

Over on Reddit one fan took to the forums to ask about the identity of the soldier who appears in the black and white intro scene of Fallout 4 might be and if they are a Chinese soldier accompanied by paratroopers.

Many in the comments were at pains to point out that they most likely were Chinese, as the country plays a huge role in the background story of Fallout, even if we rarely see them in any of the actual games.

China and the United States of America act as the primary combatants in the wars that devastate the country before the events of the Fallout Prime Video show and the games. There has historically been some debate about which country fired the first nukes but the result is the same, and what's left is a scene of total devastation where humans try to scrape out a living in the harshest of conditions.

It's actually possible to have a couple of interactions with the Chinese army in the Fallout games. The first is during the Operation Anchorage DLC for Fallout 3, where you fight them directly in a simulator. The other is during the events of Fallout 4, where you can track down a Chinese submarine known as the Yangtze-31, which is still helmed by its ghoulified captain, all those years later.

If you're just sticking with the TV show, there isn't too long to wait until that drops in December, and hopefully that'll answer some of the bigger questions set up in Season One.
