Fallout 4 fans urged to change one setting to fix their broken games

Roll it back

Last week, the long-awaited Fallout 4 ‘new-gen’ update landed and in true Bethesda fashion, it was a bit of a mess.

On consoles, players claim they can barely see a difference in visuals, and over on PC it seems like a complete non-starter, with the only major difference being ultra-wide monitor support. Oh, and it broke a bunch of mods due to the upgrades to the engine.

If you're new to the Fallout universe it's helpful to know where to start

Considering this Fallout update was supposed to bring the game up to more modern standards, many are complaining that Bethesda hasn’t implemented any graphical updates for PC, such as ray tracing.

So, players are desperate to roll back the update and revert their game to the previous patch, which isn’t as difficult as you might think.

Here’s a little guide on how to rollback your copy of Fallout 4 on PC (Thanks DSOG):

  • Create a folder on your desktop to hold your Fallout 4 files
  • Open the Run Dialog box (WINKEY + R) paste the following: steam://nav/console and hit Enter
  • A Steam console should appear. At the bottom, copy and paste each of these “download_depot” commands line by line:

  • After each one is completed, visit the folder path specific in the console
  • Once done, open the folder specific in the “Depo download complete” message, locate the Fallout 4 files within, and paste them into the folder you created in the first step.
  • After downloading all of the above depots you should now have a fully reverted version of Fallout 4.

Now you can go back to what you were doing before the update and if you don’t want any more updates in the future simply download this mod which prevents automatic updates.
