I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again. If you’re looking for something to ease the arduous wait for Bethesda’s The Elder Scrolls VI, Avowed is the perfect game for you.
Developed by Obsidian Entertainment, Avowed is a first-person fantasy RPG that first landed last year to a very respectable Metacritic score of 80.
It ended up nabbing a ‘Best RPG’ nomination at The Game Awards, although was overlooked in other categories.
Unfortunately, Avowed underperformed according to Xbox Game Studios’ sales expectations which is a shame because I do believe Obsidian deserves credit for cooking up a solid RPG.

Perhaps in the coming weeks the game will finally get its flowers.
Avowed Has Dropped Its 2.0 Update Alongside a PS5 Port
The reason I bring up Avowed is because as of yesterday, the game is now available on PlayStation 5 plus it launched a huge free anniversary update across all platforms.
Avowed was previously only available on Xbox and PC.
The combination of these two things should result in a big influx of both new and returning players which could turn Avowed’s fortunes around.
The PS5 port includes all of the new features introduced in the anniversary update.
As for what those are, well, let’s begin with the fact that the new free update has finally added a New Game Plus mode to the game.

This is a great incentive to return for prior players, as you can now keep your weapons and stats as you embark on a second adventure.
Resources will be lost though. NPC stats will increase on New Game Plus, and the Attribute maximum will increase from 30 to 60.
Avowed’s update also introduces a highly requested Photo Mode, so you can capture your favourite memories.
If you are beginning a fresh save, developers have added three new races into the mix in the game’s character creator.
As well as humans and elves, you can now play as Dwarves, Orleans, and the Aumauan.
You won’t be left out if you are mid playthrough. The update introduces a new Magic Mirror at your Party Camp which allows you to change your character at any time.
That includes sampling “the new godlike feature variants”. I can’t say I know what that refers to, but it sounds cool.
Finally, there’s a new weapon type in the form of the Quarterstaff which is great for pulling off fast melee combos.
You can read the full 2.0 update patch notes via Obsidian’s website.
I’ve already seen positive chatter online, so it certainly seems to have impressed gamers so far.
