The Elder Scrolls 6 isn’t set to land anytime soon, but do you know what is?
Gothic 1 Remake has officially locked in a launch date, and the long-awaited title is set to be ours on 5 June.
Developed by Alkimia Interactive and set to be published by THQ Nordic, Gothic 1 Remake, rather unsurprisingly, is a remake of the beloved 2001 action RPG.
You don’t particularly need to have any nostalgia for or familiarity with Gothic.

As a remake of the first entry in the series, Gothic 1 Remake is totally accessible to newcomers, with Alkimia Interactive having added loads of modern bells and whistles to lure in new fans.
Launching Across PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC
I’ll admit, I haven’t played the original, but I’ve had my eye on Gothic 1 Remake for a couple of years now because it truly looks fantastic - especially if you’re a fan of Skyrim or The Witcher.
This is an open-world RPG, so you should expect all of the usual fare.
There’ll be combat, quests, side quests, a levelling up system, entertaining NPCs, a sprawling map … you name it.
“Return to the Valley of the Mines in this faithful remake of the genre-defining open world RPG,” the synopsis begins.
“Explore a hand-crafted, organic open world that reacts dynamically to your actions. Whether you're a seasoned Gothic veteran or this is your first time being thrown into the colony, you're in for a true RPG experience with unrestricted exploration like no other.”

The story is set within the Kingdom of Myrtana which has been invaded by a horde of orcs.
King Rhobar II orders a magical ore be mined in order to be utilised against the invading creatures; he sends every prisoner to the mines.
However, when the king tells his mages to erect a magical barrier around the kingdom, the spell goes wrong, trapping everyone inside.
The prisoner’s rebel leading to a new lawless state of play where the most brutal inmates rule.
“Now, the King must negotiate with these new rulers, as tensions rise among the mine's factions. Amidst the chaos, the arrival of an unknown prisoner will change everything.”
If you are a returning fan, this remake has expanded the title’s questlines, added new NPC routines and reactions, as well as new traversal abilities, and enhanced the combat system.
As I said, the remake is finally set to launch on 5 June on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series X/S, but you can actually enjoy a taster now.
A free prologue is available across all platforms and it is what it says, a prologue.
This isn’t an early slice of the game. It’s an original story set before the main game’s events.
In this standalone experience, players step into the shoes of Nyras on his first day in the Valley of the Mines.
I’ve been meaning to check it out for ages, and I guess this is the reminder I needed.
