'Elden Ring' Update Makes Hardest Boss Less Broken, But Still Super Hard

The game is full of difficult boss fights - but one used to be almost impossible to defeat.

Elden Ring is full of formidable foes and, as much as I hate to admit it, you really do need to ‘git gud’ if you want to stand a chance at beating them all (which, thankfully, is optional). Some Elden Ring players have taken things one step further, tackling the game’s bosses using a Dance Dance Revolution mat or… their butt? It’s a weird ol’ world.

One of the game’s toughest bosses is Malenia. If you don’t have the legendary Let Me Solo Her to help you out, this particular fight can be frustrating. The Blade of Miquella herself can steal your health which just really isn’t ideal in a game as hard as Elden Ring.

One Elden Ring player managed to take down the game's bosses using bubbles. You heard me right. Take a look at how below.

Recently, the fight with Malenia was made a lot harder - if you were playing online. With each attack, regardless of whether it successfully landed on you or not, Malenia was able to heal herself. Previously, Malenia had only been able to heal herself if she had landed a successful hit - now just any old swing of the sword would do, which seemed pretty unfair, even for Elden Ring.

While this didn’t make the fight impossible, it sure felt that way. If you were skilled enough to land some serious damage on Malenia, she’d quickly heal again with a few wafts of her sword. Even Let Me Solo Her branded the fight a “nightmare.” Well, there's good news: it was a bug. Hurrah!

In a recent update, the bug was fixed and the patch notes read: “Fixed a bug with Malenia in which her HP was not healed correctly in the online multiplayer environment.” The patch also fixed other boss fights including the fight with the Elden Beast, which was actually temporarily made easier after the big bad seemingly forgot half of his attacks. If you did beat Malenia during this period, you have my respect.
