Elden Ring 2 quietly teased, but don't get your hopes up yet

A bit of good news and a bit of bad news

There is good news for Elden Ring fans… well, kind of. Listen, it’s not outright good news but it’s something that could spark a very small light at the end of the tunnel.

It is safe to say that 2022’s Elden Ring will go down as a classic as the FromSoftware game managed to capture the hearts of millions of players over the world, even those who had never before ventured into a Souls game in the past.

Check out the launch trailer for Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree below!

Directed by Hidetaka Miyazaki with world-building provided by A Song of Ice and Fire author George R.R. Martin, Elden Ring was bound to be a hit and it was to nobody’s surprise that it scooped up Game of the Year back in 2022.

With its first expansion, Shadow of the Erdtree, released back in June of this year and being just as good as its base game, it is no wonder that fans are eager for more.

However, a recent update by Miyazaki isn’t the best news we could have received.

Courtesy of an interview, since translated from Japanese, the FromSoftware director and president has revealed that the studio is currently working on multiple projects in a “variety of genres”.

Whilst that's good, it's the following comment that's left fans concerned: “We’re not really considering developments such as an Elden Ring 2.”

That means a sequel to Elden Ring is not currently in production, but that doesn’t mean that it won’t be in the future.

In fact, Miyazaki specifically wouldn't rule out expanding the IP “in some form in the future".

So it’s not all bad, right?

The news is bittersweet as although FromSoftware is capable of making some incredible games and it would be good to see it delve into other genres, fans would still love an Elden Ring sequel.

As you can expect, the reception to this news was mixed and people took to social media to share their thoughts.

Paul Lennon on Twitter said: “I’m all for developers moving on and doing new things. I’m no FromSoft fan, but Elden Ring being a tremendous 'one off' game is something I find extremely appealing.”

TristanPR77 had their own ideas: “If they are not working on Elden Ring 2, then they may be working on a new IP or Bloodborne 2.”

Regardless of what the studio’s next project is, there is no doubt that it will be just as incredible as its predecessors.
