13 games you didn't realise had free DLC waiting for you to claim
Paid downloadable content is a pretty regular thing to expect from modern video games, but occasionally, you also get some free DLC to add to your account.
While getting free levels, character skins, or other bonus content may seem like a fantastic deal, publishers often include these as optional extras that you need to manually navigate to the store page to redeem.
As such, there may be a few games in your library that have free DLC available, but remain unclaimed.
We’ve compiled a list of 13 games that you may not have realised have free DLC, detailing exactly what you can get by redeeming them. We've grabbed these from Steam, so your mileage may vary depending on if you're on another platform.

1. The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt
With two massive paid expansions and a third on the way in 2027, you may not have already exhausted a lot of the content that The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt has to offer. It’s a huge game, after all.
However, you may also not be aware that The Witcher 3 has a lot of free DLC available for you to claim. This DLC was added in the months after launch back in 2015, adding smaller bits of content that CD Projekt Red didn’t want to charge for. This includes new quests, alternative cosmetics, new armour and weapons, and even New Game+ mode.
2. Vampire Survivors
As one of the best indies of the past few years, Vampire Survivors is pretty famous for its endless stream of content and things to do. Its cheap DLC is almost always worth picking up as well, adding even more onto your pile of shame.
However, the game also has two free DLCs available for you to grab: Ante Chamber, which is a Balatro crossover, and Emerald Diorama, which is a SaGa: Emerald Beyond crossover. I guess the IP holders wanted to offer this out of the kindness of their hearts, because I know these would have sold like hotcakes.
3. NieR Replicant
With how many times 2B from Nier Automata has been modded into different games, Yoko Taro clearly knew better than to charge players for a crossover DLC that brought her over to its prequel.
The NieR Replicant 4 YoRHa DLC adds four costumes and four weapons from Nier Automata into Replicant, hopefully satisfying fans who enjoy both titles.
4. Dying Light
Dying Light was supported by Techland for nearly a decade, and in that time received a lot of DLC in the form of both free and paid content.
The free DLCs in particular feature new weapons, cosmetic items, and other bonuses. If you only own the base game, consider picking up the free DLC as well to give you a bit of an edge against the relentless zombie hordes.
5. Dave the Diver
Dave the Diver has featured a few crossovers since originally launching in 2023 and is perhaps one of the most popular modern examples of crossover content done well, as the themes of each DLC tend to be related to the themes of the game.
It also has two free DLCs available at the moment, one crossing over with Godzilla and another crossing over with Dredge. The catch is you only have a limited time to pick up the former, as it’s only available until December 31, 2026.
6. Dead Cells
Dead Cells developer Motion Twin has been pretty consistent over the years with releasing new updates and DLC for the popular metroidvania. While Motion Twin might be busy collaborating on Castlevania: Belmont’s Curse due out later this year, it’s still released these Dead Cells updates pretty frequently since 2018.
The game also has a free DLC available for you to claim called Rise of the Giant, which is a celebratory “thank you” DLC which adds a load of new content, including extra levels, bosses, and weapons.
7. House Flipper
The 2018 simulation game about renovating homes has been a popular choice among fans of the genre, so much so that it’s had several DLCs released for it over the years.
As it stands, House Flipper also has two free DLCs available for players to pick up, an Apocalypse DLC that adds nuclear bunkers and sanctuaries to your to-do list, and a Cyberpunk DLC that features a few homes with a futuristic theme to them.
8. inZOI
Although most fans of The Sims are still playing The Sims (or Paralives, which is great so far by the way), some players have also stuck with inZOI as their preferred life sim.
While the game is still in early access, developer inZOI Studio has committed to making its DLC offerings free for all players. The first one, launched in August 2025, adds a whole new city to play around in, along with new crafting and farming options, and plenty of activities to be involved in.
9. Resident Evil 4 Remake
Capcom doesn’t always support its Resident Evil remakes with a huge amount of post-launch content, but Resident Evil 4 got an exception thanks to the game’s hugely positive reception, getting a free DLC and a larger, paid expansion.
Released a few weeks after launch, Resident Evil 4’s Mercenaries DLC brought back the popular game mode of the same name, allowing players to replay different areas as several characters from the game, each with their own unique weapons and abilities.
10. Dusk
Retro throwback Dusk has been cited as kicking off the low-poly boomer shooter craze of the past ten years, and its chaotic action gameplay, combined with its grim art style, has made it a favourite amongst shooter fans.
If you’ve rinsed everything that the main campaign has to offer, you can also pick up two free DLCs for Dusk, which are worth your time. The first is The Goodies, which includes nine alpha development builds, raw game assets, and plenty of other behind-the-scenes content. The second is Dusk HD, a full HD remaster of the game with higher resolution textures and graphical effects. Winner!
11. Payday 3
Payday 3 was a little disappointing when it came out, but Starbreeze Studios has been able to turn things around in the past few years with fresh content, quality of life updates, and fixes to make the experience more appealing for fans of the earlier games. It's actually a pretty decent game now, especially if you can find a few friends to play with.
If you’re playing Payday 3, be sure to pick up two free DLCs for the game as well. The First Responder Tailor Pack includes five new outfits to equip your chosen heister with, while the Houston Character Pack features the return of Houston from Payday 2 as a free character you can play as.
12. Zombie Army 4: Dead War
Zombie Army 4: Dead War is one of the best zombie shooters of the last decade, with Rebellion utilising its robust Sniper Elite mechanics with the familiar formula of co-op games like Left 4 Dead as a baseline.
In continuing with the Left 4 Dead connection, Zombie Army 4 features two free DLCs which feature characters from both games, with one pack including Zoey, Francis, Bill and Louis as playable characters, while the other brings over Nick, Ellis, Coach and Rochelle. Additionally, you can also pick up the first season of content for free, which includes three missions and a bunch of cosmetic items.
13. Sackboy: A Big Adventure
Released as part of the PlayStation’s 25th anniversary celebrations, Sackboy: A Big Adventure features several pieces of downloadable content based on Sony IPs that were popular around the time of its release.
The free DLCs you can pick up for Sackboy include costumes based on the Uncharted, God of War, and Astro Bot franchises. There are also a few other bonus free cosmetics to pick up, including some based on the LittleBigPlanet series and others based on popular holidays from throughout the year.
