Dataminers had discovered a sword in Elden Ring that had people scratching their heads. They could tell what the swords looked like, but the search went without success. Fans chalked it up to cut content and moved along.
However, it seems the sword has been staring us in the face this whole time. The original datamine revealed several icons showing three unique swords; one encased in stone, and two more unsheathed with designs on the blade. After a year and a half the stone sword has been found.
The complex and intricate game is still throwing out secrets
The sword was discovered initially by a Twitter user called PinoPinisimo and it was shared by an Elden Ring YouTuber, Ziostorm that the stone sword is identical to the many swords buried in the ground at sword graveyards.

Obviously FromSoftware went to the effort of designing the sword and, rather than scrap it completely, ended up using it as a prop. The theory goes, the intricately designed weapons were supposed to be created using the stone sword as a base. Meaning the three designs were all linked and could have been a part of a long questline.
Fans speculate that the sword graveyards are inspired by the Manga, Berzerk, which follows the black swordsman, Guts, who wields a similar sword. This is one of many inspirations for the Japanese team, and many can be seen throughout. It's interesting to see where FromSoftware pulls inspiration, but also how they develop their games, utilising cut content in various ways.
Players, ever since the game launched, have continued looking for secrets and little easter eggs and whenever they think there's nothing left, a stone sword pops up. As we run up to the release of Elden Ring's DLC, fans will be keeping their eyes peeled for any new details in patches and updates.
