Great news! There’s a new Elden Ring game!
Terrible news! You actually need to talk to real human beings to play it!
Elden Ring: Nightreign, the new multiplayer Elden Ring spinoff from developers FromSoftware, is officially out tomorrow… and fans of the series don’t see to keen.

Why? Because it’s an online game that you need mates to play with… and because it doesn’t have crossplay… and because apparently it’s impossible to actually play the game by yourself.
Over in a thread on the r/gaming subreddit collating all of Elden Ring: Nightreign’s review scores, the majority of players don’t seem to keen on the concept of an online-only Souls-like (even if FromSoftware are the ones who developed it).
“I have like 5 IRL friends who play ER. The problem is we're all in our 30's none of us have the time to sync up our schedules to get together and play for an extended session”, replied user ArmoredMirage.
“Thats the real issue with multiplayer-"only" stuff like this.”

“And if you play with randoms you some how have to coordinate with grunts and gestures”, replied user HydroPparPlus.
“They should be of similar skill, have good internet connection, and 45 minutes or more to dedicate to a run. Oh and on same console because no cross play.”
You know, an online Soulslike sounds fun in theory but, it’s the lack of crossplay here that really kills it for me.
Getting together two mates to play through the game with me isn’t the issue, it’s finding two mates who all want to play the game on the same system.

Most of my friends played Elden Ring on PS5. If they were to buy Elden Ring: Nightreign, that’s the system they’ll play it on.
But I’m just too used to the PC version of the game these days, and I kinda don’t wanna buy a game on a system I barely use anymore– and I have a feeling that’s true for a lot of people, regardless of their system of choice.
