FromSoftware has produced some of the greatest games ever made, including the Game of the Year winner, Elden Ring. Now the studio’s next project is said to be taking players on a more nautical adventure similar to Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag.
Pirates are seemingly in this year with the upcoming release of Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced, and the previously released Steam smash-hit Windrose.
Even Ubisoft’s other pirate-adventure game Skull And Bones is hanging on for dear life, with a third year of support already laid out in a recent roadmap.
However, FromSoftware is now emerging as a new challenger, and if these leaked details are to be believed it looks the studio will have mastery over yet another genre.
From the medieval castles of Demon Souls, to the eldritch horror of Bloodborne, FromSoftware has proven it has the range to take on just about any setting.

Its next title is currently unannounced but is said to be getting an official reveal later this year and it sounds like one of its most ambitious titles yet.
According to leaks on 4chan, shared by The-Noob-Smoke on Reddit, Players will explore a new, pirate-themed world as a “drowned”, which sounds like this new game’s version of the “ashen one” or the “tarnished” like previous FromSoftware games.
Unlike the studio’s previous game, Elden Ring though, this unnamed title won’t boast an open-world.
Instead, it’ll be a more linear but interconnected world set within a large shipwreck. The ship will have apparently crashed into an island.
Gamers like PigeonGoGaming on X are speculating that the game is taking heavy inspiration from the manga/anime series HUNTER x HUNTER, specifically the ship known as the Black Whale.
It certainly wouldn’t be the first time FromSoftware games have borrowed from manga and anime. Guts’ greatsword from Berserk has made countless appearances in FromSoftware games throughout the years.
Now we’re very excited for Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced but as far as pirate games go this new FromSoftware could easily steal the spotlight depending on when it’s announced/released.
Unfortunately, the leaks don’t point to a planned release date. It’ll no doubt be worked on by FromSoftware’s A-Team, though unlike Elden Ring: Nightreign, which suggests we might see a reveal later this year with a 2027 launch date.
While you wait for this mysterious, new title don’t forget that FromSoftware is releasing another game later this year.
The Duskbloods is still on track for a late-2026 release exclusively for the Nintendo Switch 2.
We haven’t heard anything on the title for quite some time which is a bit alarming, but until FromSoftware comes out with an official statement, the game hasn’t been delayed, yet.
That said, the Nintendo Switch 2 port of Elden Ring Tarnished Edition was hit with a disappointing delay, so it wouldn’t be out of the question to see The Duskbloods pushed back as well.
