Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced launched earlier this week, and the level of its success depends on who you ask.
For many gamers this is an ideal remake and one that improves greatly upon the original release, albeit with a few odd changes here and there. Others are slating it with negative reviews for the amount of DLC available, much of which wasn’t included in the game's deluxe edition.
In terms of sales it’s been quite the success, but Ubisoft has rewarded its devs for their hard work by laying them off. “Good job lads, now please leave the building” is an insane way to thank a team for its efforts.
Nevertheless, a lot of the reviews from both critics and players has been positive, and Ubisoft are rewarding its loyal gamers with some free DLC for Edward Kenway’s ship, the Jackdaw.

Through Ubisoft’s own channels, players are being encouraged to input the following code; ASC-BFR-PMK-000.
Now this doesn’t unlock riches beyond your wildest dreams, or some swanky new outfits for Edward Kenway, but it does grant you a new first-mate: a monkey.
That’s right, Shipmate Monkey is yours to claim and it’s as easy as inputting the above code onto Ubisoft’s website. You’ll need to log into your account and select which platform you’re playing the game on, but once that’s done the monkey will waiting for you on the Jackdaw the next time you boot the game up.

Now it's time for the treasure.

Pets like this are just one of the remake’s many additions, and an adorable one at that.
As you may have gathered, however, they’re purely cosmetic. It’d be hilarious if you could equip the monkey with a little sword and pistol when you’re raiding enemy vessels but, alas, it’ll just be chilling by the helm as it waits for you to conclude your plundering.
It’s very kind of Ubisoft to drop a freebie like this onto our laps, but the feeling is bittersweet.
Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced players get a digital monkey simply for enjoying the game, but 51 of the people who actually worked on it lose their jobs. That hardly seems fair.
When you look at it like that it more than justifies the backlash the game is currently receiving. Aside from already being littered with microtransactions it’s also littered with bugs and glitches. Some of these faults make the game nigh unplayable too, like one that erases your playthrough progress.
Fortunately those that don’t want to buy into Ubisoft’s remake still have access to the original version of the game. While many remasters/remakes usually lead to the original being delisted, Ubisoft confirmed long ago that it wouldn’t rip the OG from stores anytime soon.
That’s good to know, especially because the game’s fantastic DLC expansion Freedom Cry didn’t make it into the remake for whatever reason.
