Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced players are being warned of a bug present in the game, which can apparently wipe out hours of progress.

The Assassin’s Creed series features some of the biggest and most in-depth virtual worlds you’ll ever experience, but with that comes the caveat that you’ll often spend hundreds of hours playing through them.

With Black Flag Resynced being the most recent release, one particularly nasty glitch has the potential to wipe out hours of progress from your save file.

The bug was first shared by Game File’s Stephen Totilo (via GamesRadar), who reports that Templar Hunt side quests may leave players losing hours of their save file if they leave them unfinished.

“If you're playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, do not leave any Templar Hunt sidequest chains unfinished. It produced a glitch that cost me five hours of playing time,” Totilo writes on Bluesky.

Adding specifics in a follow-up post, Totilo says that he was “I was several quests into the Templar Hunt in Kingston, had left the region to play other parts. Eventually triggered a main story mission in Kingston ("Imagine my Surprise"). The TH chain and main quest blocked each other. Couldn't progress.”

PSA: If you're playing Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced, do not leave any Templar Hunt sidequest chains unfinished. It produced a glitch that cost me five hours of playing time. The game's really fun and some of the new bits are interesting in unexpected ways. But my write-up is delayed!

He then says that Ubisoft has identified the bug and that it will be fixed as part of a future update, though it isn’t confirmed when that will be live.

How to avoid the Templar Hunt save progress glitch in Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced

The best way to avoid this bug is to simply avoid doing the Templar Hunt side quests for now until the next patch fixes it.

Templar Hunts are missions in which you can collect a series of keys which will allow you to unlock the desirable Templar Armor set for Edward, one of the most powerful armours in the game.

There are four quests in the game which allow you to unlock these keys, which must be played in order, and once you’ve collected all the keys, you’ll be able to unlock the armour and claim it for yourself.

The first of these quests is called This Old Cove, and occurs at the beginning of Sequence 4.

However, with the save progress glitch currently in the game, you have to essentially complete one Templar Hunt side quest as you receive them, as starting a main story mission may result in both questlines blocking each other and softlocking you, meaning you need to go back to an earlier save.

With Ubisoft aware of the issue, it’s only a matter of time before the issue is patched out, which has already been confirmed to be coming in a future update.

In GAMINGbible’s Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced review, we said that Ubisoft has “clearly gone to great lengths to ensure that this remake deserves to exist, and it’s very clear after spending many hours with the game that it’s a love letter to the fans and the developers.”
