Elden Ring meets Cyberpunk 2077 in gorgeous new open world RPG

You can expect a challenge with this new action game from Sony; a game that mixes SoulsBorne combat and difficulty with a sci-fi aesthetic. Stellar Blade is a PlayStation 5 exclusive that looks to bring another great adventure to the console.

Looking like a mash-up of Elden Ring and Cyberpunk 2077, this action game shows a world collapsed under the attack of mysterious creatures. "The future of humanity is balanced on the edge of a blade. Ravaged by strange, powerful creatures, Earth has been abandoned, and what is left of the decimated human race has fled to a Colony in outer space."

As a PlayStation 5 exclusive, Stellar Blade looks to be tapping into a similar audience who were previously wowed by Nier: Automata. It's a world of half-human and half-cyborg people up against the challenge of the world crumbling around them. You play as "Paratrooper Eve" who "arrives on the desolate remains of our planet with a clear-cut mission: to save humankind by reclaiming Earth from the NA:tive – the malevolent force that has devastated it."

Stellar Blade will tap into "blisteringly fast" combat that requires a mix of offensive moves with the knowledge of when to defend to save your life. There's a strong sense of following the likes of Bloodborne and the Dark Souls franchise. What we can see of the game, is truly gorgeous; sparks of electricity glow vibrantly, characters models are lovingly designed. As the game's blurb says, players can "Become immersed in a highly detailed post-apocalyptic world that blends beauty and horror to spectacular effect."

Much of the design work in Stellar Blade comes from renowned Korean artist Kim Hyung Tae, who delivers a detailed and dark future landscape riddled with danger stemming from monstrous creatures and the infestation of technology.
