Later this week PlayStation 5 gamers are getting an enormous, upgraded, open-world RPG, but PlayStation 4 players are losing it forever…
Despite new-gen hardware supposedly being the future of gaming there are remarkably few games that you can’t still play on last-gen consoles like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One.
There are less and less as time goes on but most of the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S library are older games upgraded to run better on these more advanced systems.

That’s not the case for Black Desert though, a huge RPG that’s getting a new-gen upgrade this week that’ll replace the previous version.
You read that right, it’s going to replace the version found on the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, so if that’s the system you primarily play it on you’re about to lose access to it permanently unless you upgrade.
The update will go live this Thursday on June 26, and it will be free for those who already own the game.
Transferring your data across to the new version will apparently be easy enough so it won’t take long to get back into the game if you can upgrade. The upgrade itself will apparently deliver faster load times and improved performance.

The upgrade will be chased by an additional content update coming in July as well, so again if you want to experience that you’ll need to get off the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions if you haven’t already.
I’m sure this news will upset quite a few fans but unfortunately it’s just the way things are heading nowadays.
More and more gamers are upgrading by the year so it makes less sense to keep older versions of live-service games active, and it’s probably more cost-efficient too.
For those that do play Black Desert on new-gen hardware though keep an eye out for that update coming on 26 June.
