'Disgusting' open-world Steam horror free to check out right now

'Disgusting' open-world Steam horror free to check out right now

Not too late for Halloween scares

It's never too late to scare yourself silly, even if Halloween was almost a week ago. Fans of horror games have a 'disgusting' one they can check out for free as long as you have access to Steam and a PC to play it on.

VORAX is an "Open World Survival Horror game set on a Mediterranean island where a mysterious pathogen has infected the local population."

Vorax seems to be inspired by classic zombie games like Call of Duty's zombies mode

It seems Call of Duty's Zombies mode has some competition. VORAX takes a lot from this game mode seeing survivors of a zombie apocalypse situation fight to survive by wiping out the undead or defending bases. And you can play it right now by heading over to Steam and downloading the demo.

The VORAX Steam page lists plenty of features that will be familiar to fans of zombie games - zombies with unique attacks; various areas to play in such as sewers, urban areas and caves; plus barricade building and trap laying to defend a base of operations.

The game also boasts a "large and detailed game environment" which plays within an open-world. There will be survival elements featured too, as seen in hunting and cooking food, while having to also treat wounds and injuries. There's even a stress mechanic which will alter gameplay.

Sure, zombie games are ten a dozen nowadays, but this combination of arcade zombie shooter with more simulation-types of survival will hopefully appeal to both sides of the audience. There is definitely space in the market for a zombie game that offers this kind of depth.

There is no firm release date for the game as yet, but having a playable demo is always a good sign. VORAX will be entering into Early Access when it releases, so zombie killers can jump in early.
