'DayZ' Studio Shows Off Stunningly Photorealistic Next-Gen Upgrade

Must have cost an ARMA and a leg

Bohemia Interactive, the developer and publisher behind games like DayZ and the ARMA series, has officially unveiled its mind-blowing next-gen engine to the world.

According to the press release, the Enfusion Engine will form the basis for all of the studio's future games. And based on what we've seen of it in action so far, that can only be a good thing.

As you can see below, the Enfusion Engine is capable of some pretty incredible stuff. It's been designed with the studio's approach to games in mind, too, which is to say that it's an engine built around supporting games with complex and immersive systems.

"Games built with Enfusion will run much better than before," Bohemia said of the new tech. "We want your 16-core PC Master Race builds to sweat, but we also want to make sure everyone can enjoy their content across various builds and console generations."

Bohemia added that it's been working on the Enfusion Engine for for years now years. At present, there are 30 developers currently involved in its development, as the company stresses getting it right is very much a priority. In addittion to being able to produce much higher quality graphics and overlapping systems, Enfusion will also strive to offer enhanced mod support and a more user-friendly experience.

“We founded Bohemia Interactive 22 years ago, we’ve always chosen to use our own in-house engine. No other engine available on the market allowed us to create the kind of games we wanted," Marek Spanel, founder and CEO of Bohemia Interactive, said.

"For example, simulations with detailed physics operating in massive-scale open worlds that players and communities can easily customize. Nothing has changed about that. However, our aging Real Virtuality engine, used in Arma 3, for example, has increasingly run up against its technological limits. Enfusion, on the other hand, is ready to face the technological challenges of the future and will without exaggeration form the shape of our games into the next decade.”
