Daniel Radcliffe Responds To Wolverine Casting Rumours

Although he's not optimistic that he'd be the first pick after Hugh Jackman, Radcliffe isn't ruling out the possibility altogether.

Another week, another Marvel casting rumour, eh? People sure do love slapping pictures of different actors onto various characters and seeing what sticks, and I can’t say I blame them, it’s good fun. It happens that much though, that it’s genuinely quite hard to keep up with the popular picks.

In case you weren’t aware, apparently, one of these fan-favourite choices is Daniel Radcliffe as Wolverine. I’ll be honest, I can’t say I see it, personally? But hey, I’m not here to judge. By the sounds of it, it’s because Wolverine is short in the comics, and Radcliffe himself is, according to Google, 5’4”? Which, by the way, no, I didn’t just randomly know before writing this. Anyway, speaking to ComicBook about his new film, The Lost City, the actor was asked about whether or not it could be a possibility in the future.

Even though seeing a new actor in the role could be interesting, it'll be hard to top Hugh Jackman's performance. Check out the clip below of his first appearance as Wolverine in X-Men.

“So many times, people come to me like, 'hey man, heard the Wolverine news, that's pretty cool.' No, I don't know anything about it. Like, I appreciate that somebody is clearly going like 'Wolverine's actually short in the comic books, you should get like a short guy to do it!’” he said. “But I don't see myself, I don't see them going from Hugh Jackman to me. But who knows? Prove me wrong, Marvel.”

This isn’t the first time that he’s spoken to ComicBook about playing Wolverine. Back in 2019, the actor basically said that because he personally loves the X-Men films so much, it’d actually make it less likely that he’d want to star in them himself: “Most of the films that I love I don't think I would want to see remade,” he said at the time. “And I certainly don't think that I would want to be in the remakes of them.”

It’s a good job that he isn’t too bothered about the role, because it seems he’d have some competition for it. Last month, American actor Scott Eastwood revealed that he thinks that fans should start up a petition for him to play Wolverine. Previously, he said he'd be “100 percent down” to take on the role if he got the chance, as he personally loves the character. A quick Google search reveals that a petition was started on Change.org, but it currently has…45 signatures. I think it might need a few more than that to get off the ground.
