MCU fans divided over leaked X-Men casting

One of the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe leaks points towards a very popular popstar taking over the role of one of the X-Men in Disney’s upcoming film, and opinions are decidedly mixed (to say the least).

At this point in time, we don’t really have a lot of solid info about the MCU’s upcoming X-Men reboot.

We know the director, Thunderbolts*’s Jake Schreier, and we know it’s supposed to release sometime after Avengers: Secret Wars (according to Kevin Feige).

And… that’s kind of it. Well, at least as far as confirmed info goes.

I say “confirmed” because prominent leaker, MyTimeToShine, recently stated that one very specific popstar is being eyed for the role of the X-Men’s Dazzler… Sabrina Carpenter.

Naturally, the internet has had a very levelheaded reaction to this news.

Just kidding, the comments over on Marvel Updates’ Twitter post detailing the leak are an absolute mess.

“If this is true, it's brilliant,” commented user @BlakeNorthcott. “The woman playing Dazzler should be a pop star IRL, and the casting should gently tap the fourth wall.”

“Has she ever acted before???” replied user @HibikiKomo. “It’s fine but like can we have people who have acting experience?”

So, first things first– does Sabrina Carpenter have acting experience? Yes. A whole bunch, actually.

She used to be a Disney Channel mainstay, appearing in stuff like Girl Meets World and Sofia the First. I’m not saying that she’s on track to win an Oscar any time soon, but she does have the experience.

More importantly, however, how likely is it that this leak is real? I’m 50/50 on it.

That’s because MyTimeToShine’s track record is about 50% positive. They have got some big things right in the past, like Ironheart’s release date and Jessica Jones’ return to the MCU, but they’ve also just whiffed on a whole bunch of stuff too.

Also, just because Disney could potentially be in talks with Carpenter, it doesn’t mean that she’ll actually follow through with it. She’s a Busy Woman, after all. Probably because she’s working late all the time, on account of being a singer. Plus, all those Manchilds are taking up a lot of her time.
