The MCU’s Multiverse Saga is finally nearing its end.
There’s still a couple of years to go until it draws to a close, but we know exactly what’s coming.
Fantastic Four: The First Steps, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, Avengers: Doomsday, and Avengers: Secret Wars will see us out, with Phase Seven - and a new saga - kicking off sometime after Secret Wars’ release on 17 December 2027.

While there’s been no confirmation from Marvel as to what might be coming next, the prevalent fan theory is that we’ll be entering The Mutant Saga.
You’ve got to admit, it makes a lot of sense.
Marvel somewhat recently acquired the freedom to use the X-Men characters after purchasing 20th Century Studios, with Deadpool & Wolverine being the first instance of that within the MCU.
It looks as if Avengers: Doomsday will follow suit, with plenty of X-Men characters confirmed to be included.

In fact, there are more confirmed X-Men in the film’s line-up than there are OG Avengers; let that sink in.
Patrick Stewart’s Professor X and Ian McKellen’s Magneto are due to return, for example.
My theory is that Doom will wipe out these 20th Century iterations of the X-Men, making way for the MCU to cast its own versions from another universe, but that is just a theory.
One prominent X-Men character that’s sure to surface is Cyclops.

James Marsden will reprise the role in Doomsday, but it’s rumoured that actor Jack Champion may be in talks to take over the role after that.
Not to toot my own horn, but it backs up my theory.
Champion is perhaps best known for starring in Avatar: The Way of Water and Scream VI, with his name prominently attached to the character of Cyclops.
As reported by ComicBookMovie, when recently asked about the rumour, the actor had this to say: “It’s, uh, definitely news to me. I mean, I don’t…I hope it comes true, you know. I would definitely love to play that character, but…rumours.”

Hmm… Champion could be playing coy but it really does feel like he was telling the truth here.
Sometimes though, an actor publicly expressing their interest in a role is what lands them on Kevin Feige’s radar, so perhaps this will work out well for him.
As an added fun fact, Champion has actually appeared in the MCU before as “kid on bike” in Avengers: Endgame.
Portraying Cyclops would undoubtedly be an upgrade.
