Cyberpunk 2077 sequel will be tested on consoles before release

CD Projekt have revealed their new development process, which can only spell good things for the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel.

Cyberpunk 2077 - the comeback story of the century. When we set foot in Night City back in December 2020, complete with its self-launching cars and glitches galore, who’d have thought that just a couple of years later, people would be so excited at the prospect of a sequel? 

Thanks to some much-needed updates, DLC on the way, and the release of the Cyberpunk: Edgerunners anime on Netflix (which none other than Hideo Kojima has referred to as “a miracle”), CD Projekt Red’s futuristic IP is in a totally different place now to where it was back at that fateful release. One of the main problems back then was that the reviews, generally, were very favourable - thanks to them being conducted on PC. However, the biggest issues with the game were found in the console versions, so fans essentially walked in blind. Thankfully, it sounds like this won’t be a problem with Project Orion.

As reported by PlayStation LifeStyle, in a new video released by CD Projekt, board members Paweł Zawodny and Piotr Karwowski discussed the studio’s newer “proactive and forward-looking way” of developing games - AKA, how we can expect the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel to be approached.

“A major risk encountered in the development process relates to stability and performance on all target platforms. The ‘always working game rule’ also applies in this context. We test gameplay quality on every platform from the get-go, and do not focus only on the developers’ PC build,” Zawodny said. “Of course, this makes early stages of the creation process a bit more tedious, but it also gives us greater control and confidence at later stages.”

So, that certainly sounds a lot more promising, right? Of course, it’s probably going to be quite some time before we see anything of this new title, but I’m sure we can all agree that it’s best for the team to take their time.
