After almost a year of waiting, we finally know when we can expect Phantom Liberty to land. Cyberpunk 2077’s upcoming (and only) expansion will officially launch on 26 September - and it’s shaping up to be very nice indeed.

GAMINGbible’s Ewan had the opportunity to go hands-on with the expansion during Summer Game Fest, calling it “the victory lap that Cyberpunk 2077 deserves”. Phantom Liberty is filled with “engaging new stories and surprising adventures,” but you don’t have to purchase the expansion to experience all it has to offer. Many updates and features, including vehicular combat and the new skill tree, will be available in the base game when the expansion releases. Due to these additions, Cyberpunk 2077 will become harder to run on lower-end hardware. We’ve also now discovered that the release of Phantom Liberty will unlock a new story ending.

Take a look at Phantom Liberty in action below.

As reported by PSU, when you reach the end of Phantom Liberty’s story, you’ll unlock a brand new ending in the base game. This is dependent on the choices and relationships you’ve made during the expansion’s story. The feature was revealed by game director Gabe Amatangelo during an interview, where he explained, “As the trailer shows, Songbird brings you in with the promise of being able to handle your issue with the relic. It will affect outcomes in the base game [and] the story of Phantom Liberty [which] within itself has multiple different variations of endings.”

I guess we’ll be playing through Phantom Liberty multiple times in that case. We’re not exactly sure how long it’ll take to complete at this moment in time but Dogtown certainly sounds like a vast place to explore.

Phantom Liberty is priced at £24.99/$29.99 and is a new-gen only release. Enjoy the expansion on 26 September on PS5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC.
