Support for Cyberpunk 2077 has officially ended and yet CD Projekt Red’s latest announcement tells a different story.
In May, CD Projekt Red finally revealed its new DLC expansion for The Witcher III: Wild Hunt, Songs of the Past.
It’s a new adventure starring Geralt of Rivia that will seemingly tie into the events of The Witcher IV.
We’re excited to learn more at this year’s Gamescom, but we’re more excited at the possibility for more Cyberpunk 2077 expansions.
Due to Cyberpunk 2077’s rocky launch, it ended up receiving less support than originally planned.

Phantom Liberty is the only expansion to date that was released for the game, which is a shame because it was excellent and we’d love to see more.
With The Witcher III: Wild Hunt getting new DLC though, the chances of Cyberpunk 2077 getting the same treatment later down the line seems surprisingly high.
The Witcher III is over a decade old and while a new expansion had been rumoured for a while it was still a surprise to see those claims based in factuality.
It makes sense why CD Projekt Red is releasing one now too, with The Witcher IV taking all the time in the world to develop.
The new expansion will build hype as well as potentially set the stage for Ciri’s solo outing, all while delivering more gameplay for one of the greatest games ever made.

After The Witcher IV, CD Projekt Red will likely direct its attention to the Cyberpunk 2077 sequel, which at the time of writing is simply being referred to as Cyberpunk 2.
Given how long it takes these games to come out and the studio’s reluctance to rush development after Cyberpunk 2077’s failed launch, what better way to build hype once again than another surprise expansion for the current Cyberpunk game?
Obviously this is all speculation but we all know Songs of the Past is going to blow up when it launches in 2027. The player count for The Witcher III is going to skyrocket and fans will be even more eager to get their hands on The Witcher IV.
It’d only make sense for CD Projekt Red to replicate that process with Cyberpunk 2077 in the build up to its sequel.
The question is what would another Cyberpunk 2077 expansion be about? Phantom Liberty canonically takes place before the main game’s ending so it’d likely have to fit somewhere within V’s story.
Alternatively, it could be a prequel where you play as Johnny Silverhand, taking place before his eventual demise at Arasaka.
There are so many possibilities and we’d love to see any of them come to fruition. Cyberpunk 2077 deserves it.
