Rated as highly as the best game of all time by many fantasy RPG fanatics, The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt was widely considered to be one of the best non-canon endings to Geralt's story, as he proudly promoted Ciri into the position that destiny led her.
Yet the adventures of the Lion Cub of Cintra aren't over with her newfound profession, as the fourth instalment of The Witcher game series has been announced, confirming the 'right' choice in Wild Hunt's finale.
Neither is Geralts' tale. The White Wolf may have succeeded in training Ciri to fulfil her destiny, but his journey has not concluded, as a warm-up for The Witcher 4 was announced to be a massive DLC dropping in Wild Hunt.
Songs of the Past will join Hearts of Stone (2015) and Blood and Wine (2016) in taking us on a new adventure with Geralt - and a few familiar faces.
We've been speculating that CD Projekt was dropping a new The Witcher 3 DLC for the last few months after leaks suggested that there were a lot of files being added to the 11-year-old game.

But what we didn't realise is that, throughout 2026, the developers have been dropping clues as to what we can expect, and who will be joining us.
Eagle-eyed fans noticed that a new artwork piece dropped on social media last month, which saw Geralt sporting a sword that we have yet to be treated to in The Witcher 3.
That same curved-hilt weapon then featured on the poster for Songs of the Past, sending fans into a frenzy.
This theory has now been confirmed by Senior Community Manager, Laura Beitzelhas, who insisted that there have been a bunch of clues posted recently.
"As a few eagle-eyed people have already seen over the past 24 hours, there are some hints waiting for you on a very important evening in Witcher lore, Belleteyn Night, in our Belleteyn celebration that we shared a few weeks ago. So... keep looking for clues," Beitzelhas said during Blood and Wine's 10th anniversary livestream.

That points us directly to this fascinating festival, and one character, in particular, loves a good musical foray.
Featuring on the artwork is Dandelion, whose presence has not been felt since he aided - and requested aid, again - in Novigrad during the main quest 11 years back. Strumming his lute in his usual eccentric fashion, the festival appears to be a fornification test for the bard, testing whether he can truly settle down once and for all.
But that's not all.
Notable omissions from both Hearts of Stone and Blood and Wine (except certain Corvo Bianco endings), Ciri and Yennefer also could reappear, just as Geralt's child surprise gears up for her own story in The Witcher 4.
A poem released on social media about Belleteyn night suggests that Ciri and Yennefer are 'never too far', which could indicate that the beloved trio might be teaming up again.
On Belleteyn night, when tall fires rise, whispered wishes go through the quiet skies.
A lion cub’s fate is penned in the stars, and lilac and gooseberries are never too far.
Tonight, there are no monsters to kill, no roads to roam, just quiet thoughts and wishes that try to find a home.
The White Wolf sits still, mesmerized by the dancing flame, while Dandelion strums his lute and hums Geralt’s name.
It will be one of the first times in the game sequel series that the family of three will all be active at once, should they arrive together. Only for a brief time were they united on Skellige before splitting off to fight the Wild Hunt.
No matter who is appearing at the festival, though, the provocative bard, the empress-to-be, or the stubborn seductive sorceress, Songs of the Past will definitely be more than just a reunion.
