It’s a wonderful time to be a Daredevil fan. After the excellent Netflix series was cancelled after its third (and best) season in 2018, many assumed that the character would be completely rebooted in the Marvel Cinematic Universe with a new actor and a new direction.
But this was not to be! First Vincent D’Onofrio returned as Kingpin in Hawkeye. Then Charlie Cox showed his handsome face as Matt Murdock for the first time in years as one of the big surprises of Spider-Man: No Way Home. Then he returned in full Daredevil regalia for She-Hulk, complete with very clear references to the events of the Netflix show.
Cox and D’Onofrio will return to the MCU once again in the Disney Plus series Echo, before starring in the 18-episode Daredevil: Born Again in 2024. Truly, this is a dream come true for fans who felt Charlie Cox provided the definitive take on the character - and it just so happens that Cox is as surprised and thankful as the rest of us.

During a recent interview with Marvel.com, the actor said that the popular “Save Daredevil” social media campaign played a major part in his eventual return to the role
“Whatever happens to my career going forward from this point on, I owe most of it to the ‘Save Daredevil’ campaign,” he said. “That even when I had lost hope years ago, they did not, and they continued to campaign and support. And over the years, I've met many of them, and they're such an enthusiastic, passionate crowd.”
He continued: “Daredevil is such an amazing character. It's been the great honour of my career to be offered that part and to be able to play him. I've had such fun with it. It's changed my life irrevocably. And when the show came to an end, despite the disappointment of the journey ending, I felt like we'd done a good job, and we had an amazing time and we could only be grateful for what we'd had.”
The “Save Daredevil” campaign kicked off almost immediately after the Netflix show was canned, and gained a huge amount of traction in a short time. It’s hard not to suspect that Marvel might have completely recast the character if the fans hadn’t made it so clear how loved Cox is in the role. So hey, I guess sometimes the internet is good? Who knew.
