Stray meets Assassin's Creed in new stealth action game

Meow

Fans of Assassin’s Creed and Stray may want to pop this game onto their wishlists.

Hollywood actor Dave Bautista, along with his production company Dogbone Entertainment, is set to develop a new game called Cat Assassin, with wider franchise plans in the future.

The game is created by Steve Lerner, who also wrote Stray, along with other games like Twelve Minutes and The Pathless, and will be developed by Titan1Studios.

Cat Assassin is intended to kickstart a new franchise with multiple entries.

In addition to the game, we should expect to hear about Cat Assassin books, a feature film and an animated series being developed.

The official description of Cat Assassin reads: “Set in a gritty neo-noir world inhabited by anthropomorphized cats of all types, Cat Assassin centers on Hugh, a highly skilled assassin caught between various cartels and power brokers in a dark and twisted city. The franchise promises a unique blend of humor, action, and stealth.”

Dogbone Entertainment cites Stray and Assassin’s Creed as major inspirations for the game, but also references Sifu and Splinter Cell as other influences.

“It's been a pleasure collaborating with Titan1Studios on Cat Assassin,” Bautista said in a statement. “Their ability to build worlds through animation has been so impressive and they've created a truly unique world in this game that I can't wait to share with players.”

The Guardians of the Galaxy actor will also star in the game and have creative input on its design. It’s expected to be the first release of the franchise and will set the tone for future entries in the expansive universe.

It seems like a risky move to me to start building out an entire franchise for something that hasn’t even had one release yet, but hopefully Dogbone and Titan1Studios can pull it off, as the initial pitch for the game sounds interesting.

It’s also confirmed to be in development for Xbox, PlayStation, Switch 2, and PC (with Steam Deck support). There’s also a rough release window of October 2027 cited on the website.
