This new free PC offering might just be the cup of tea that fans of Assassin’s Creed and Hollow Knight have been thirsting for.
The Assassin’s Creed series is one of Ubisoft’s most popular properties, alongside the likes of Far Cry and Tom Clancy’s Rainbow Six. Assassin’s Creed blends parkour, stealth and all-out action, three elements that have kept many fans returning since its inception in 2007.
Granted, the series has changed quite a lot over the years, moving away from a linear action-adventure franchise to something more akin to a western RPG, but for the most part, I feel that evolution has helped to keep the series feeling fresh.
That being said, if you have a thirst for an Assassin’s Creed game that blends some of what originally made the series so popular, and its modern-day evolution, then I can wholeheartedly recommend 2023’s Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which recently benefited from a big free content update.

As for Hollow Knight, when it was released in 2017, it won the hearts of gamers across the world. It had fun, but challenging gameplay, gorgeous visuals and an endearing story that is equally heartbreaking.
The love for Hollow Knight is why it was a painful process for fans waiting for the arrival of its sequel in 2025, Hollow Knight: Silksong.
Thankfully, the sequel did not disappoint, and it was well worth the wait.
There's elements from both games in this new Steam freebie we've discovered for you today. Check out the trailer below - isn't its pixel art gorgeous? I won't lie, I'm also getting Metroid vibes from this one.
What Game Blends Assassin’s Creed and Hollow Knight?

The game in question is the action-adventure, indie RPG, Cathedral: Crow's Curse, developed and published by Decemberborn Interactive.
“Despite its pixel-art style, it didn’t hold the demo back from giving me some compelling combat encounters, as the player can sneak up behind enemies for a stealth-based kill or fight head-on with parries and swift strikes from a dagger,” said GAMINGbible’s Sam in his preview. “Several enemies could be easily avoided altogether, yet I still went out of my way to fight them just because I liked the feeling of parrying them so much.”
It sure sounds like visually and in terms of exploration, Cathedral: Crow's Curse has Hollow Knight vibes, mixed with some Assassin’s Creed stealthy action. Which isn't a bad concoction, if you ask me.
I can also see some Ghouls 'n Goblins inspiration, the classic Capcom arcade game from the 80s.
Cathedral: Crow's Curse doesn't have a release date at the time of writing, but it does have a playable demo that you can download right now courtesy of Steam.
It might also be worth adding it to your wishlist to be notified of its launch.
