Star Wars games are as popular as ever but one game in particular just can’t seem to get off the ground, even going as far as copying a recent Game of the Year contender just to see the light of day.
We’re definitely not short of RPGs but you can never have too many, right? Star Wars RPGs in particular are pretty rare but when they work, they really work.
Take Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and its sequel for example. Two fantastic Star Wars RPGs that gamers still fondly remember to this day.
You can play both games on the Xbox Series X/S via backwards compatibility but they’re also available on PC and the Nintendo eShop.

Gamers are still waiting for the remake of the first game and while there’s still no update if it’s okay, some leaked gameplay reveals some of its early inspiration. It’s not great.
The Knights of the Old Republic remake has been through development hell, and that’s putting it lightly.
YouTuber 100% Star Wars claims to have seen the remake, and is now saying it was going to borrow heavily from Final Fantasy VII Remake, and by extension Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth.
“Aspyr’s KOTOR Remake was totally inspired by it”, began 100% Star Wars. “The combat & traversal felt almost identical (just less flashy), and HK-47 played exactly like Barret. Add some DA:I RPG mechanics and that's the remake in a nutshell…”
For those who haven’t played either, they took the turn-based combat of the original and made a sort of hybrid out of that. Basically, you’re still limited in what abilities you can use and when but you’re free to attack and dodge like you’re playing your standard hack-and-slash game.
In all honesty, this doesn’t sound too bad. Our protagonist Darth Revan is an insanely cool character, so perhaps it would have been nice to see their full potential unleashed in faster-paced action, but we’d still prefer the more traditional turn-based gameplay.

The Knights of the Old Republic remake being developed by Aspyr was cancelled but a remake is still in the works, now by Saber Interactive instead.
100% Star Wars claims to have seen both versions and believes the Saber one to be superior, and if it retains the original combat and overall feel of the OG game, we can understand why.
Unfortunately, there’s been no update on the game since and there’s unlikely to be one anytime soon either.
Summer Game Fest and Gamescom are quickly approaching so perhaps there’s a surprise in store for either of those showcases, but for the time being, Star Wars fans shouldn’t hold their breath.
There’s no release date to speak of either but surely we can all agree that Saber Interactive should take as much time as it needs right? The game deserves it.
