Star Wars fans are roasting the Knights of the Old Republic remake, following the revelation that the game was announced four years ago today.
If you’re an oldie like me then you probably have fond memories of playing Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic on the family computer back in the early 2000s.
What’s more, you were probably really stoked to hear Sony announce a remake of the game back in 2021, to be made in collaboration with Star Wars porting wizards Aspyr Media.

Four years later and we haven’t really heard anything regarding the project’s status. It’s apparently still in production, but has been moved from Aspyr over to Saber Interactive.
Naturally, Star Wars fans aren’t happy at the supposed trouble the game has seen during development, with some even sceptical that the game will ever be released.
“It is, it's just gonna take long because they started all over,” wrote one fan on Reddit, alluding to the fact that it’s shifted studios a few times.

“Until I see a proper trailer with a release date I just assume the game or movie doesn’t actually exist,” another comment reads.
“Why do they tease stuff so far in advance? Is it to justify to their superiors their paycheck? Is it an investors thing every time, just keeping the ticker happy? The positivity of every cold drop in history should signal something to these publishers that getting hyped about a brand new game and then being told you can play it right now sells them like hotcakes,” reads another comment.
Similar sentiments exist over on X (formerly Twitter). “At this point, we won't get KOTOR 2 & 3 until 2030,” writes one fan.
“What do you think we see footage of first, this or Elder Scrolls VI?” another wrote.

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake was announced back in September 2021, and was going to be a timed exclusive for PS5 created by Aspyr Media in collaboration with Sony.
It was intended for release in 2022, but several issues caused the game to be delayed “indefinitely”, according to reports. Aspyr was removed from the project and development was handed over to Saber Interactive.
Saber was then sold by its parent company, Embracer Group, to a company called Beacon Interactive. It’s assumed that the game is still in active development there, with Saber continuing work on the remake.
