It’s hard to imagine the remake of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic ever actually releasing; the title just seems to be trapped in development hell.
It was September of 2021 when the remake first appeared courtesy of a short cinematic teaser, or perhaps I should say that’s the only time it’s appeared.
Officially, to this day, that remains all there is to see of the Knights of the Old Republic remake.
But unofficially, well, a fresh look has supposedly just arrived.

I do first want to bring you up to speed on the game’s troublesome development.
The remake was originally in development at Aspyr as a timed PlayStation 5 console exclusive.
However, in August of 2022, Saber Interactive took control of the project with a number of its European studios now responsible for it.
No explanation was provided as to what was proving to be the issue for Aspyr.

We do now, courtesy of a new report by MP1ST, have an idea of what Aspyr’s version of the remake would have looked like as several pieces of development art have come to light.
These were taken from the portfolio of a former Aspyr artist with the screenshots showing an array of weapons and props, including a very recognisable blaster rifle.
There’s nothing particularly groundbreaking here.
“Yep, those sure are Star Wars weapons,” was my own reaction.

Still, it’s nice to see even a tiny little slice of this troublesome title.
If you do hop into that MP1ST report to view the images, I want to make it clear that when MP1ST refers to the “cancelled” remake, they’re specifically talking about Aspyr’s version.
As far as we’re aware, Saber Interactive is beavering away on the game so it should still be coming … eventually. I just wouldn’t get your hopes up too much about this one.
As I said, the whole development period has been both troublesome and hush-hush.

It’s hard to even say whether Saber has picked up where Aspyr left off or whether it has its own ideas for the project.
The report does further detail that weapons were supposedly modular, allowing players to build something that suited their style, with the game also reportedly due to have a companion system.
Who knows? Perhaps we’ll see those features brought to life should Knights of the old Republic ever return to us.
Earlier this year, Saber confirmed the title is still in active development so I guess now it’s just a matter of waiting to see proof.
