One of the lead writers behind the canned Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic 3 has revealed exactly what we’d have seen out of a third entry in the series, and fans are distraught at what we’ve missed out on.
In an interview with VG247, Chris Avellone, the lead writer behind Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, Alpha Protocol, and Fallout: New Vegas, detailed the scrapped plans for a third entry in the KOTOR series.
“The third game involved you, as a player character, following where Revan went and then taking the battle to the really ancient Sith lords who are far more terrifying than the Darths that show up”, Avellone revealed.

“These guys would just be monsters. These would have a level of power that was considerable, but at the same time you’d be able to dig more into their psychologies, and their personalities, their history… and for some of them like - they’re the ancients, so they’re not just ruling a solar system, [but] swathes of the galaxy.”
Star Wars Outlaws is well worth picking up if you haven't already.
Over in a thread on the r/StarWarsEU subreddit, users are lamenting what could have been.

“I wanted this game badly and it never came”, commented user Daveallen10. “But I think Chris was a HUGE reason the first two games were so good. He is an excellent writer and that is something that is in short supply today.”
“A shame it was never made,” replied user AcePilot95. “No matter the quality, it would at least have been interesting.”
It’s obviously a huge letdown that we’ll never get the third KOTOR game that Avellone intended, but don’t give up hope. The chances of a KOTOR 3 are probably way more likely now than they have been for years.
And hey, at least if we never do get an official follow-up, the fans will always have our backs…
