Star Wars star hyped for brand-new Sequel: ‘I can’t wait’

A bittersweet moment

Despite being such a recognisable figure in the Star Wars universe, one star will be watching from the sidelines when his co-star reprises her role in an upcoming movie.

The Star Wars Sequel Trilogy may not be everybody’s cup of tea but there is no denying that its stars have gone on to make a name for themselves in a galaxy far, far away.

Check out the trailer for Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker below!

That is definitely the case for John Boyega who took on the role of Finn and was last seen in 2019’s Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Since then, Boyega has not returned to the Star Wars franchise and has no plans to. However, his co-star, Rey’s Daisy Ridley is set to star in the upcoming New Jedi Order which takes place five years after Rise of Skywalker.

Despite not returning himself, Boyega recently spoke on the latest episode of the Happy, Sad, Confused podcast and revealed that he will be supporting Ridley on the sidelines.

“I miss Daisy, I haven’t seen Daisy face-to-face in a minute… I found out [about Daisy’s return] online,” he shared.

“Being a genuine fan, I’m online, I watch reaction videos, I’m on the subscriber lists. I get the emails, as if I’m not in the films – you know, Star Wars: The Force Awakens comes out… oh, does it?

When I found out about Daisy’s movie, it made sense. It made sense to expand the franchise in that way. I’m just looking forward, first of all to seeing if it’s real, because we have had a few Star Wars announcements – you know, development is development, you can’t always get it done.

I’m just hoping that Daisy gets that chance to shine in a franchise that’s finally hers, where she is now the bona fide Jedi. I think it’s exciting and I can’t wait to watch it. I really can’t. I’m happy for her.”

Led by Ryan Gosling, New Jedi Order is set to begin production later this year ahead of a rumoured 28 May 2027 release.

It is a shame that Boyega will not be reprising his role as Finn but it is still heartwarming to see his support for his ex co-stars.
