Star Wars fans are torn over whether Luke and Leia Skywalker should be recast for more future stories.
Say what you want about the sequels but it was the only way we were ever going to see beloved Star Wars characters like Luke, Leia and Han again.
It all culminated in Star Wars Episode IX: The Rise Of Skywalker of course, so not every story can have a happy (or good) ending
Moving forward their future appearances will likely involve de-aging technology, like what was used in The Mandalorian to bring a younger Luke onto the scene, and also with Hayden Christensen for the Ahsoka series.

Recasting is still an option though, and fans have been suggesting actors to take on the roles for years.
One fan on Reddit suggested Sebastian Stan for Luke, a popular fan-cast for the character, and Rachel Brosnahan for Leia, providing some mock-up images of the pair in the roles.
“I feel like Stan’s getting a little old to be ‘young Luke’” read one of the replies, but others quickly interjected to say he’d make a great middle-aged Luke, especially one who’s the master of a new Jedi Academy.
“Yep, it should have been done years ago” said another, with others wondering why it hasn’t happened sooner given how much potential it’d have for spin-off Disney+ series.

Personally I’d be all for the recast, but only for major projects where the de-aging tech just isn’t sustainable.
As a fan of the old Star Wars: Jedi Knight games I’d genuinely love to see a story set in the middle of Luke’s new Jedi Order, before it all went to ruin in the sequel trilogy obviously, and Sebastian Stan would be an excellent casting for that role.
Who knows, perhaps the powers that be have something like that in mind moving forward, as it’s pretty clear Dave Filoni has a wider plan for how his various Star Wars shows will connect later down the line.
