The best multiplayer in the Call of Duty series is about to get better than ever, thanks to talented modders.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 was originally released in 2009 and is widely considered by some to be the best in the series, not only with its single-player campaign but its multiplayer offerings too. The highly critical acclaim of Modern Warfare 2 (2009) is further reflected by its mightily impressive scores of 94 on Metacritic.

The critical and commercial success of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 would then evolve into the 2019 reboot of the OG MW followed by MWII in 2022. What’s more, let’s not forget that Modern Warfare 2 would also be remastered in 2020, but that was for the single-player campaign only and did not include multiplayer.

Not content with the multiplayer of Modern Warfare II (2022), fans are taking matters into their own hands by releasing a multiplayer mod for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Campaign Remastered.

As reported by Dualshockers, in a tweet from the Twitter account that represents the MW2 mod, @H2Multiplayer, answering a question from a follower, it read: “Yes, this is from our MW2 Remastered Multiplayer Mod. I hope we can get the elevators working for it.”

Apparently, the mod appears to be at least somewhat ambitious as the mod creator claims that it will “not just be normal MW2 maps, but also the campaign remastered maps repurposed.” Furthermore, the mod creator says that the maps are well into development and hope to show something in the next couple of months.

Sadly, it’s very likely that Activision may shut down this mod before it's even released, which might explain why the H2Multiplayer Twitter account has been made private. We hope that won't be the case, but we won't be surprised if it happens. In fact, we’d be more surprised if Activision allows this mod to be released as it may feel it conflicts with Modern Warfare II (2022).

In related news, an insider believes that Call of Duty 2024 will be based on the Gulf War and it is rumoured that this year's game will be the reboot of Modern Warfare III.
