A comparison between Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 (2023) and Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (2011) has revealed the game’s pace is actually slower in the newest release than it was in 2011. It is evolving, just backwards.

Footage captured by Warzone statistician James "JGod" Godoy showed a side-by-side analysis of two operators (one in 2023’s Modern Warfare 2 and one in 2011’s Modern Warfare 3) with the same basic loadout, on the same map, using the basic sprint mechanic. The comparison revealed that the Modern Warfare 3 player could cover distance at a much greater speed.

Further analysis revealed that strafing left and right, reloading, and ADS times (Aim Down Sights) was also much quicker back in 2011.

The footage was then shared through JGod’s Twitter, much to the dismay of long-time fans of the Call Of Duty series, who were shocked at the dwindling speed of the latest instalment, many of which felt the slowdown was a sign of an ageing player base.

One fan said “And most people wonder why MW3 is a Top 1 COD of all time” while another stated “This is why I always look back to mw2. It was fast-paced even without a run n gun setup, but if you had marathon pro + lightweight pro equipped.. felt like Usain Bolt.

“I personally don’t like all the slide-cancelling s**t etc, so to me going back to this would be perfect.”

While the difference in speed between the two COD titles is very noticeable, it isn’t exactly the end of the world. The multiplayer for modern Call Of Duty games are designed and balanced around the current levels of speed, it’s just interesting to see how drastically things have changed since the “golden era” of COD.

In other news, if you’re on the fence about Activision Blizzard’s Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 and fancy giving it a go we’ve got good news for you, it’ll be going free-to-play for one week only…
