Confirmation has arrived that the newest Call of Duty game won't be touching on 9/11 in any way shape or form.

Early in the hype cycle for Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, rumours started flying that the game would be tackling 9/11 in some way, shape or form. Discussions started about whether or not it was acceptable for a game to actually tackle such a huge and monumental moment in American history, and whether there was actually any real tactful way to do so. As it turns out, the game isn't actually touching 11 September 2001 at all.

Take a look at the latest campaign trailer below.

"No. That's a rumour," Treyarch director of production Yale Miller said in an interview with PC Gamer.

"Black Ops 6, like every other Black Ops game, is purely fictional. In true Black Ops fashion, it's not what's happening up here - 'the stock market's going crazy and everything's great' - because we actually know, not everything's great. And it's about Black Ops and the team, what's happening underground and behind the scenes and the stuff that nobody's really talking about. But always, it's purely a fictional story," associate design director Matt Scronce added.

The title was first revealed in full late last week at the official Xbox Showcase. That showcase announced that the game is bringing back traditional prestige rewards, and also that the game will be always online even for physical versions of the game due to "texture streaming" in an effort to keep the file size of the game down as much as possible. The main thing that wasn't discussed in the showcase was Call of Duty Warzone, though the developer did tease that we can expect to hear news on what's to come next for the popular battle royale mode for the franchise later in the year, prior to the full release for Black Ops 6.
