Details have been in low supply on the upcoming sequel to 2019’s Call of Duty: Modern Warfare - a reboot of the Call of Duty sub-series. Activision previously confirmed that the next entry in the series would be released in 2022 but considering we’re several months into the year now, we’d expect to hear some news soon.

Apparently, Infinity Ward said your wish is my command as new cryptic changes on the developer’s social media channels tease several major updates.

Take a look at this gamer who tested out whether you can actually save Ghost in 2009's Modern Warfare 2.

On Friday 23 April, Infinity Ward set their Twitter account to ‘go dark,’ setting both their profile picture and banner to a plain black expanse … or so it seems. Twitter user _Tom_Henderson was able to brighten the image revealing none other than Simon ‘Ghost’ Riley to be hiding and lurking in the background, seemingly confirming his return to the franchise. The developers also took a similar blackout approach on Instagram.

Ghost was in fact teased during Modern Warfare’s end-credits scene so while this new discovery may not be a complete surprise, it nicely confirms a suspicion. Ghost was first seen in 2009’s original Modern Warfare 2 so it would be a full-circle comeback.

It seems Infinity Ward are set to announce something much larger than the return of Ghost though. Insider RalphsValve recently suggested that a major Call of Duty reveal would be made on 30 April after a mysterious countdown appeared online. He’d also previously said that Ghost would return along with Price, Shepard, Soap and Roach.

Now that Infinity Ward have themselves teased an announcement, it seems he’s right on the money so we could have a trailer - or even release date - in just seven short days.
