Brie Larson just cannot catch a break. Ever since it was revealed that Larson would play Captain Marvel, she’s been the target of internet slander - not from everyone, of course, but certainly from enough people.
If you thought that was all ‘so 2019’, you’d be wrong. Carol Danvers will next make an appearance in The Marvels, due out in November, and it didn’t take long for the haters to bombard the trailer with dislikes. It quickly became the most disliked MCU trailer in under 24 hours. It’s a shame because, actually, it looks like one of the greatest Marvel films in years. What’s very clever though is that the trailer is actually hiding a secret message for said haters. Even outside of her role in the MCU, there are still some people who are desperate to try and trip up the actress as seen in this latest Cannes interview.
Take a look at the trailer for The Marvels below.
Larson is currently at the Cannes Film Festival and during an interview yesterday, 16 May, the actress was asked about her views on Johnny Depp. Last year, Depp was embroiled in a high profile libel case against his ex-wife Amber Heard who’d accused Depp of domestic violence. While Depp won the trial in the US, he lost a similar trial in the UK. One journalist (via Variety) asked Larson what she thought of the fact that Cannes was opening with a new film starring Depp.

Larson was clearly caught off guard by the off-topic question, but fans are impressed with her excellent response. The actress said, “You’re asking me that? I’m sorry, I don’t understand the correlation or why me specifically.” It’s a perfectly good point. There’s little sense in asking the question unless you’re hoping Larson will give a controversial answer.
Fans were impressed with the actress’ composure. One wrote, “Absolutely correct. Perfect answer to an unnecessary question.” Another commented, “That is a loaded question. They know there are certain contingencies of the internet that don’t like her and this is bait,” while someone else said, “Good for her. Ask the men as well.” Too right.
