BioShock hasn’t had a new entry in the franchise for many years, with fans waiting over a decade for BioShock 4, but that wait is going to get even longer.
According to a new report from Bloomberg, the fourth game in the beloved franchise is getting a complete overhaul after it failed a review by 2K Games executives.
The report goes into details about the new game and its 10-year development cycle, with executives supposedly unhappy with the narrative direction of the game.
This is reflected in a change within the staff, with Cloud Chamber Games studio head Kelley Gilmore being removed from the project, and moving creative director Hogarth de la Plante into a publishing role.

This was communicated to staff during an all-hands meeting, and 2K Games confirmed the changes, also sharing a statement on the future.
It read, “We are working hard to set BioShock up for the best possible future. Right now, we have a good game, but we are committed to delivering a great one. We are working closely with leadership at the studio to define this path.”
BioShock is a beloved series, with the first game remaining at the top of many players lists for the best game of all-time.
On the subject of that first game, Bloomberg also reveals that a remake for BioShock was in development, but was sadly cancelled earlier this year.

With this information coming to light, it’s probably safe to say that BioShock 4 is still some years away, but only if 2K Games believes it’s the best game it can be.
While this news will upset fans, hopefully, it’s being pushed back and overhauled to bring us a brilliant game, rather than one that could taint the legacy of the series.
BioShock creator, Ken Levine, has no hand in the new game as he is working on a new title called Judas, which was supposed to release back in March.
