The BioShock series may have received an official remaster back in 2016 but one player has given us a chance to make the 2007 first-person shooter look better than it ever has before.

First released almost twenty-years ago and receiving a remaster in the shape of BioShock: The Collection back in 2016, BioShock still looks incredible to this day despite modern graphics coming a long way.

Check out the trailer for the BioShock: The Collection below!

As the first instalment in the BioShock trilogy, BioShock is widely regarded as the best and with BioShock 4 seemingly being lost to time despite reportedly being in active development, many fans are returning to where it all began.

Luckily, thanks to this free download by modder FCH823 over on Nexus Mods, players can return to Rapture and see it in more detail than ever before.

The BioShock Remastered - HD Texture Pack does exactly what it says on the tin and adds high resolution textures for the entire game, over 2300 upscaled textures, to be exact.

Compatible with 2016’s BioShock Remastered, this mod aims to rid the game of pixelated textures by enhancing fine details.

“Most diffuse and specular textures have been upscaled x2 or x4, depending on content and original resolution,” the mod description reads.

Not only that but a couple of textures found throughout the game had even been reworked by hand in order to fix some mistakes introduced with BioShock Remastered.

As a result, all types of textures such as environment, objects, adverts, and more, have been improved but this does not extend to the UI.

“About 40% of BioShock Remastered (2016) textures are actually x2 upscale from the original game (2007),” the description continues.

“These have been re-upscaled using the original 2007 textures to provide better quality, as the upscale tools available now provide much better results than the tools that were available back in 2016.

The remaining 60% of the textures were remade by hand for the 2016 remastered, and have been upscaled in this mod.”

The mod page also provides some before and after images and it is clear to see that the overhauled textures make a very big difference to the aesthetic of the game so if you are eager to experience BioShock in all its glory, take advantage of this free download.
