Developer and publisher Bethesda has released The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim fifteen times already, but shockingly this isn’t one of those times Skyrim is popping up on a new platform.

So no, this isn’t the announcement that Skyrim is being ported to Amazon Alexa, firstly because that happened already, secondly because for these new Steam games, we are going further back in gaming history.

If you are a fan of the Elder Scrolls then check out this gorgeous cinematic trailer of The Elder Scrolls Online.

Earlier this month, Bethesda announced that it was shutting down its proprietary launcher, called Bethesda.net Launcher, however the free games which could be downloaded to it will now be lost to the sands of time. As part of this, Bethesda are allowing users to migrate all their games, mods and in-game currency over to Steam.

As spotted by NME, the migration means that a number of classic Bethesda games will be coming to Steam for the first time. The first two Elder Scrolls games Arena and Daggerfall will be coming to Steam for free. They are already available DRM-free through the Bethesda website, but post-migration they can be integrated into people's Steam libraries.

A game in the Wolfenstein series, which has also been available DRM-free, will be coming to Steam for the first time. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory is an early multiplayer entry in the series, which was initially released in 2003. Other properties such as creator tools for some of Bethesda’s most popular games - Skyrim and Fallout 4 - will also be available for free on Steam.

The migration will begin on 27 April and the Launcher will remain live until 11 May. It’s not clear when the games will become available in their new online store front, but it is likely to be on or before the latter date.
