Assassin's Creed World War I gameplay blows fans away

Assassin's Creed World War I gameplay blows fans away

The Great War

Assassin's Creed is a brilliant franchise for many reasons, but mostly because its central conceit means it can take us anywhere in time. That means there's limitless potential for countless games in the series - including one set during The Great War.

As it stands there's so much for Assassin's Creed fans to look forward to, with various projects in the works at Ubisoft HQ. Assassin’s Creed Mirage is next, of course, and coming in just a few weeks. Then there's a new game set Ancient China, an Assassin’s Creed set in Japan, and even one centred around witch trials.

Take a look at Assassin's Creed Mirage in action below!

One location that fans would love to see featured in a game is World War I. But it just so happens that we've actually already visited The Great War - and it featured in the criminally underrated 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate.

You could be forgiven for having missed this one, given that Assassin's Creed Syndicate isn't exactly showered with praise at the best of times. But World War I featured as an optional mission that could be unlocked at the start of Sequence 6, via a memory rift located at the far east of the Thames River.

As I'm sure you all know, World War I took place from 28 July 1914 to 11 November 1918, and saw conflicts between the Allied forces (UK, France, Russia, Italy, USA and Japan) and the Central Empires (Germany, Austria-Hungary and Bulgaria), for control over Europe.

The mission in Assassin's Creed Syndicate sees protagonists Jacob and Evie Frye called in by none other than Winston Churchill to help turn the tide of the battle. It's a thrilling, though all-too brief taste of an Assassin's Creed game set during the historic conflict.

“I’d love to see a full-fledged game of Assassin’s Creed during both World Wars,” said silentwolf6555 underneath a video of the gameplay, which you can see here. “Manifesting that Ubisoft will legit release an AC game set in WW1 & WW2,” added flirtgguk.

“Can we please do this? Origins didn't work for long, Odyssey peaked a little, but they killed their own series with Valhalla, splitting up player numbers between Odyssey and Valhalla, and then people falling off because it's just not as fun,” pleaded BengoManiff. “A Syndicate-style game set in WW1 or 2 would be MASSIVE after the last 3 AC games.”
