It’s official. Assassin’s Creed is heading to VR with Assassin’s Creed Nexus, with Ubisoft promising a reveal very soon.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus was officially announced as a new project in 2020, alongside Splinter Cell: VR which was unfortunately cancelled. Not much was said about Nexus in the months that followed, which changed yesterday with a post from the official Assassin’s Creed Twitter account.

We recently got a look at Assassin's Creed Mirage's gameplay. Take a look below.

The post confirmed that a reveal will take place at the upcoming UbiForward show, which will be part of the annual Summer Game Fest. The VR title will be dropping on Meta Quest 2, Meta Quest Pro and the currently unreleased Meta Quest 3 later this year, though a specific date hasn’t been given yet.

Very little is known about what the game will involve, but considering the Nexus is the machine modern-day Assassin’s Creed characters use to view what happened in the past, it’s more than likely we’ll be visiting some historic times and locations. When and where remains a mystery, but one thing is certain. We’ll be doing what assassins do best, sneakily taking down marked targets with style, hopefully with fully-controllable hidden blades that are actually attached to your wrists.

Assassin’s Creed fans are eating well this year, especially with the recent announcement of several new games in the works, leading to Ubisoft bolstering its staff by 40% to increase development efforts. Aside from this upcoming VR game, this year will also mark the release of Assassin’s Creed Mirage, which is set to bring the series back to its roots of theatrical stealth and espionage gameplay.

Recent entries in the series leaned more towards RPG gameplay, introduced during Assassin’s Creed Origins, and then fully embraced with Assassin’s Creed Odyssey. While they performed well, many fans wanted the classic gameplay to return, in addition to a more confined, but perfected open-world, which is one of the key features of Mirage.

Assassin’s Creed Nexus will be revealed in all of its time-traversing glory during the UbiForward showcase, which will take place on 12 June. Steam users can also add the game to their wishlist right now.
