Ubisoft has delayed a host of upcoming games, which is very likely to include the codenamed Assassin’s Creed Hexe, a move welcomed by fans.
It’s fair to say that leading up to the launch of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, many fans of the popular Ubisoft series had plenty of concerns, most notably as a result of the game being delayed multiple times.
Thankfully, when Assassin’s Creed Shadows finally graced us with its presence on 20 March 2025, it exceeded many fans' expectations. Did the game sell as well as Ubisoft hoped? Maybe not, but there’s little denying that the extra development time served the game well.

In our review of Assassin’s Creed Shadows, we said: “This is an epic, sweeping adventure bolstered by jaw-dropping visuals and a masterful blend of stealth, action, and exploration. You don’t want to miss this one.”
I’ve been a big fan of the Assassin’s Creed series since the very beginning and have played every single game. However, there was a time when a new game was released every year and even for the likes of me, I started feeling burnout from the constant releases.

Thankfully, that process began to slow down in recent years. Other than Assassin’s Creed Odyssey (2018) releasing just a year after Assassin’s Creed Origins (2017), following 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, a two-year gap seems to be the new standard for the series.
As reported by GameSpot, Ubisoft has released its recent financial report, and many of the publisher's leading franchises, such as Assassin’s Creed and Far Cry, may have been pushed back to 2027 and 2028.
“After a thorough review of its pipeline that took place from October to December, the group decided to provide additional development time to some of its biggest productions in order to create the best conditions for success,” said Ubisoft. “This decision has already been beneficial to the quality of Assassin’s Creed Shadows.”
The next game in the Assassin’s Creed series is expected to be Assassin’s Creed Hexe, a game inspired by the brutal 16th-century witch trials across Europe.

Along with Far Cry 7, Assassin’s Creed Hexe does not have a release date but it was expected to launch sometime in 2026, but that appears to no longer be the case and fans are pleased by the recent Ubisoft update.
It’s also perhaps worth keeping in mind that no specific game related to the 2027 and 2028 delays was mentioned, but it’s probably safe to assume what games might be included. Hopefully, Sprinter Cell is in that bunch.
“Let them cook,” wrote Reddit user Herban_Myth in response to the news.
“For once, let them cook,” agreed Accomplished_Sky9755 in a different thread.

“I find it weird how negative everyone is, assuming they’re in trouble,” said squareswordfish. “My first assumption was that Ubisoft saw how well the release of Assassin’s Creed Shadows went, which was delayed multiple times, and decided to apply the same care to its other games,” they continued.
“Assassin’s Creed Hexe is legit the most interesting project they have made in a decade, this sucks,” exclaimed xkeepitquietx. But hopefully, this delay will be for the better, so fear not.
We’ll keep you posted when we get confirmed release dates for Assassin’s Creed Hexe and Far Cry 7.
