Assassin’s Creed Hexe will reportedly bring back a fan-favourite feature that we’ve not seen in a decade.

Whether you’re a fan of the most recent games in the series or not, there’s no doubt that Assassin’s Creed is not only one of Ubisoft’s most popular franchises, but it’s also one of the most recognised franchises in video game history since its inception in 2007.

Over the years, the Assassin’s Creed series has brought us some fantastic characters such as Ezio Auditore, Edward Kenway, Kassandra, Bayek and Aya, to name a few.

What’s more, if you were to ask a fan to name their top three games in the series, there’s a good chance that Assassin’s Creed II, Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag and Assassin’s Creed: Origins may be mentioned.

However, with so many main entries in the Assassin’s Creed series, as well as spin-off titles, there’s a good chance that some underrated games might get lost in the shuffle. One such game, in my opinion, is 2015’s Assassin’s Creed Syndicate, starring the twin duo of Jacob and Evie Frye.

Set in London, 1868, during the heart of the Second Industrial Revolution, Assassin’s Creed Syndicate seemingly paints a perfect picture of what the UK may have looked like at that time. On top of that, its story kept me gripped from start to finish, it had enjoyable combat and exploration, and both Jacob and Evie instantly won me over with their charm.

Assassin’s Creed Syndicate would also receive three story expansions, perhaps the best of which was ‘Jack the Ripper’, inspired by the infamous serial killer who was never caught, but there have been countless speculations as to who that perpetrator might have been.

I won't give anything away regarding the story of this DLC, but it did have a fun gameplay mechanic not included in the base game, and that was instilling fear into your enemies, whether it be via panic bombs or exceptionally heavy takedowns. Think of how Batman triggered fear in his foes, and you’re on the right track.

Sadly, we’ve not seen the fear gameplay mechanic since the Assassin’s Creed Syndicate DLC, which is a damn shame. Yet, in a 2024 report, video game journalist and industry insider Tom Henderson claims that a version of the fear system could return in Assassin’s Creed Hexe.

What is Assassin’s Creed Hexe?

Not a great deal is known about Assassin’s Creed Hexe at this time; after all, we’ve had no release date or gameplay trailer.

We do know that it will be set during the 16th-century Witch Trials in Germany and features a female protagonist, named Elsa, who has witchcraft abilities. I assume it’s not the same Elsa from Frozen (maybe).

It’s expected that Assassin’s Creed Hexe could launch sometime in 2026 to early 2027, and if so, it will most likely be released on PC, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.
