Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag is believed to be getting a remake sometime in the future, though hopes of it coming soon have been dashed.

As my favourite Assassin’s Creed game, and also the best one in my opinion, I sincerely hope Ubisoft is actually developing a remake, and Assassin’s Creed leakers all say the project is real and happening.

That said news like that leads to clout-chasers wanting attention, so some “leaked” images of the new remake surfaced online and were shared to the relevant communities on Reddit.

The images showed the game’s protagonist Edward Kenway out of his assassin uniform exploring what I’m assuming to be Havana based on the buildings, though one screenshot shows an interior that reminds me more of Nassau.

Either way it was said these were legitimate leaked screenshots of the game and before fans got too excited they reached out to anyone who might be able to confirm or deny if they were the real deal.

Unfortunately the leaked images have since been debunked by both Rafiti and j0nathan, who are Assassin’s Creed leakers with reliable track records. Both leakers responded to the images saying they don’t believe they’re real.

Many Assassin’s Creed fans were never fooled to begin with though, like one of the Reddit comments that said “As soon as I saw these, I knew they were fake. They look almost identical in style to the fake GTA VI images that were floating around.”

They have a point there, as at first glance I thought I was looking at a heavily modded Red Dead Redemption 2 screenshot, and others pointed out similarities with other third-person games like The Witcher III: Wild Hunt.

Many commenters also pointed out that leaked images are incredibly difficult to assess nowadays with how much AI is used, making it even harder to debunk them.

This doesn’t mean a remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag isn’t getting made though, as many leakers still believe it’s in the works.

In fact just the other week new details were shared online, with sources claiming that while the in-game map won’t be bigger than it was in the original release there will be more to see and do, giving us more of a reason to explore.

Personally I’m hoping the map is expanded a bit, as it’s quite small by today’s standards and the ship gameplay was a real highlight so more reason to set sail is a good thing in my opinion.
