Tons of details have leaked for the heavily rumoured remake of Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag, and it sounds awesome.
With so many games to pick from in the popular Ubisoft series, there’s a good chance that many fans will pick out 2013’s Assassin’s Creed IV: Black Flag as a standout favourite.
Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag featured a charming and charismatic character who could rival Ezio Auditore da Firenze with his endless charm, in the form of Edward Kenway.
It allowed players to live a fantasy pirate life, exploring the seas and ‘X marks the spot’ treasure locations. It also just happened to be a fantastic game in its own right, of course.

Sure, the gameplay and visuals may be a bit dated today, after all, Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag is well over a decade old at this point, but there’s no denying that it’s still one of the best games in the series to revisit.
That being said, you may have already seen many rumours circulating in recent months that Ubisoft plans to remake Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag, with some believing that there is a playable build behind the scenes.
If these rumours are true, then Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag could be getting a much-needed makeover with not only its visuals and gameplay, but also brand-new content to boot.
As brought to our attention by the Twitter account ‘The Hidden One’ (via Jeux Vidéo Magazine), the Assassin’s Creed: Black Flag remake could be removing the modern-day content from the original game and replacing it with new content set in Edward Kenway’s era, adding “a few hours” of extra content.

Its gameplay will be closer to the RPG-style Assassin’s Creed games, such as Origins, Odyssey and Valhalla. It will reportedly feature loot gear and stats for Edward, similar to those seen in the aforementioned games mentioned in this paragraph.
What’s more, there will also be inventory systems, no loading screens when transitioning on land or sea. The map is said not to be bigger, but will have more activities, and it’s expected to feature cut content from the original game, such as a Mary Read storyline.
While this remake will be considered more of a “faithful reimagining”, it will use Ubisoft's newest iteration of its Anvil engine, the software that powered Assassin’s Creed Shadows.
Finally, an early 2026 release window has been planned internally, but sources believe that it could be released later in the year.
